The Spot on Kirk

About The Spot on Kirk

Nestled in the heart of Roanoke, The Spot on Kirk is a lively hub for music enthusiasts. It offers a unique space where local and touring artists can showcase their talents.

The Story

The Spot on Kirk first opened under the non-profit umbrella of Down by Downtown Music, Inc. With more than 30 live music performances at over a dozen venues throughout the city, Down By Downtown (DxDT) is an annual celebration of Roanoke’s growing music scene. Participating venues host live music during a special weekend in April, many of which are free. DxDT was organized well over a decade ago as a part of Roanoke’s Creative Connectors Class. For the past several years DxDT has been run by the Blue Ridge Marathon organizers to provide live musical acts throughout the weekend of that annual event.

"As a local performer that's still getting my feet wet, The Spot provides me with the opportunity to perform for a wider audience, whether it be online or in-person. It gives me the chance to perform on a stage among other solid talent. I'm grateful for the opportunities I've received to perform and grateful for The Spot's mission to support local artists."

"The Spot on Kirk champions diversity and excels in supporting independent artists locally and abroad. If you ever want to see what is on the unfiltered cutting edge as far as the arts go in this region, it is definitely the place to go. Soul Sessions has been amplified to new audiences because of its partnership with The Spot on Kirk. I am personally grateful to The Spot for giving me opportunities and making me feel right at home, whether I'm promoting Soul Sessions Roanoke or I am playing with my band Harvest Blaque & Co."

"The Spot on Kirk is a treasure. Access to the arts and a sense of community are at the core of any great city. Uniquely - and even in the midst of a pandemic, The Spot offers Roanoke both."

"I was lucky enough to discover the Spot on Kirk a couple of summers ago. Turned out a traveling psychedelic band with a projectionist from Baltimore was playing. I made the show and it was awesome. I've since seen many great and eclectic artists come through. I used to think I had to go to Asheville or Raleigh to see really interesting bands, but now I can stay close to home and get a similar experience. I will always support The Spot to the extent I am able. It's a multimedia mecca and I have never been disappointed!"
