Fiddlin’ is an Old Time and Bluegrass music documentary that takes place at the world's oldest Fiddler’s Convention in the Appalachian Mountains. This rollicking, inspiring film shines a light on what is best about America and shows the uplifting power of music. Wayne Henderson, a world -renowned luthier known as the “guitar god,” is a master craftsman and master storyteller. His friendship with 11-year-old guitar prodigy Presley Barker shows how closely knit a community of musicians can be. The enduring relationship between mentor and prodigy is a testament to music’s power. With multi-generations jamming together, we are witness to some off-the-charts pickin’ and fiddlin’. And when the top 10 ten finalists are announced in the ultra-competitive guitar competition, we’re in for an exciting and unexpected musical climax. With kids holding instruments instead of phones, it almost feels like we have taken a step back in time.
Vicki Vlasic is a first-time filmmaker from Detroit, MI. After raising her four children, she joined her sister, Julie Simone, and they returned to their Appalachian roots in Southwest Virginia to film Fiddlin’. After graduating from the University of Virginia in Communications and Marketing, Vicki had worked primarily in the non-profit arena in event planning, marketing and fundraising. She found that the skills she developed during that time translated well into a producer’s varied duties. Her long-time passion for writing was also a benefit to the project. Vicki is currently traveling with the theatrical tour of Fiddlin’ after a successful year on the film fest circuit where Fiddlin’ was selected to twenty-six festivals garnering 15 awards along the way. She and her sister, Julie, are entertaining the idea of developing Fiddlin’ as a potential Broadway musical. Vicki also has some writing projects that she is currently developing and is in the process of “producing” two weddings for her twins next summer.
